Grocery Shopping Tip: Shop Smart!

Have you ever gone to the grocery store and pondered if you should buy the big bag of goldfish, the regular size or the convenient snack packs of goldfish?

I used to be the person who would just grab whatever and kept going but then I started to really look at products and figure out how I can get more for my money.

When you want to get more for your money you have to start looking at the details of the product.
I'm talking about looking at ounces, quantity, and whatever else you need to figure out what is the best bargain.

Let's break down the goldfish for this example, I know I know...MATH! UGH! But it won't be so hard once you practice doing this every time you shop!

We're going to break it down to how much each ounce comes out to for the price and we're going to round the numbers to make it easier.

Regular bag: 1.99 for 6.8 ounces = 2/6.8 = .29 cents per ounce
Big bag: 3.99 for 11 ounces = 4/11 = .36 cents per ounce
Snack packs: 4.99 for 9 ounces = 4/9 = .44 cents per ounce

Best bargain....drumroll please!.....: The regular size bag of goldfish!!

So as tedious as this might be, once you do it on a regular basis it will become easier and easier, trust me, it really does!

The next Grocery Shopping Tip will be about "sales" because sometimes those "sales" are not always what they say they are.

Until next time,

Shoe Haul!

This week I took a trip to my local thrift store and found some great items!
I purchased a few tops and a few pairs of shoes.
The biggest steal of the trip were two pairs of Style&Co ankle boots, barely worn and almost brand new!
The moment I went home I had to see what these sold for and to my surprise there are sellers on eBay selling these boots for $50!
My price: $10!!!! (For each pair)
I'll post my other items in another blog once I get some time to photograph them.

Until next time,

Sometimes you CAN'T be thrifty

There are times in life when you can't  find a less expensive alternative. I had to deal with this recently when I woke up in the middle of the night to a loud pop in my neck followed by extreme pain. Pain so bad I couldn't get out of bed without assistance.

The fright it gave me was horrible. Having to face the fact that the world wasn't going to stop because I got hurt was daunting. With everyday responsibilities from washing dishes to going to work, which seemed like the hardest thing to do when I could barely turn my head, I knew I had to see a doctor and I had to see one fast.

Not wanting to see a regular physician because I knew I would just be prescribed pain medication and be told to rest, I went to a chiropractor. Yes, it was expensive, since that type of care usually isn't covered by health insurance, but it was the best money spent that day.

I would spend all of my money if it meant that I or anyone else I cared about would not be in the pain I was in.

Because of all of the things that I can get deals on, my health, isn't something I want to be frugal about.

Until next time,

(By the way, I'm doing much better and nothing serious happened to me:))

Be Aware of Make-Up Bargains!

A few days ago I was on my Instagram and I saw a rave review on a Marc Jacobs eyeliner from a celebrity make-up artist.
Since I was looking into trying out a new eyeliner I decided to check the price on the Sephora website.

The eyeliner is $30!!!

I love make-up, I've been in the beauty industry for almost 10 years but to this day I can't bring myself to spend so much money on ONE item (it must be the bargain hunter in me, thanks mom!). SO I decided to check out Sephora's sets and kits.

Sephora has this great option to purchase kits that have smaller sample sizes of products (sometimes they have full size products) to try out.
To my surprise they had this:

The eyeliner is FULL-SIZE and it comes with mascara and a gel eyeliner! SCORE!

The full size mascara (.10oz) is $26 and the gel liner (.01 oz) is $25.

It gets even better! The mascara is a sample size BUT the gel liner is the same amount of product as a full size!

That means I got 2 FULL SIZED products for the price of one with an added bonus of a sample product.

The whole point to this blog is to advise shoppers to always look for deals and read the details of the products. You never know what bargain you might come across.

Until next time,

D.I.Y Edition

Recently, my niece celebrated her 21st birthday. I wanted to do something that was inexpensive but still fun so I started going through Pinterest (I love love love that app!). I saw a great idea and decided to give it a try. I did my own version and this is how it came out.
After I completed the gift I decided it needed a second part to compliment it.
This gift was a total of $40 and it was a hit! I love doing D.I.Y gift ideas because you can get very creative and make something look amazing but not put a huge dent on your wallet.

My thrifty mom outfit

This is an outfit that I got completely at the thrift store!

Top: $8
Leggings: $5
Shoes: $6
Necklace: $6
Total cost: $25

I never thought that I would be a trendy mom. I was always the person in sweats, a tank top and a hoodie. Dressing up would of been a matching sweat pant suit or jeans and a t-shirt. I always wanted to be trendy and cute but I didn't have the heart to spend money on clothes.

One reason I don't like to spend money frivolously (which is what I think about buying expensive trendy clothes) is because I'm always planning for the future. Whether it be a trip, a house or a car. I would rather have a budget for things I think are priority and then save what I have left over for further future plans.

Once I was introduced to thrift stores I found the way I could be trendy. A way I could finally express myself through clothes like I've always wanted.

I'm so glad I'm able to this now and I'm excited continue to share my experiences as a bargain shopper.

Until next time,

A Thrifty Toddler Look

In this post I am going to post my toddlers outfit that came from a thrift store or items on sale.

Starting from the top, the glasses are from a thrift store for $2.
The plaid shirt is also from a thrift along with the Levi jeans.
The shirt was $1.99 and the jeans were $2.99.
The shoes are from Nordstrom Rack and they were on sale for $29 (yes, a little pricey but they are brand new Nikes, BUT you can find shoes like these at thrift stores for around $5-$10!).
The undershirt and socks are from Target, average price for each item, $2.

Total outfit price: $39 with the shoes, ONLY $9 excluding the shoes!

Next post will be an outfit I got for myself at a thrift store!

Until next time,

The basics to being thrifty

The most basic step to being thrifty is to shop at thrift stores. I hardly went thrift shopping when I was younger because I didn't have anyone to really tell me about thrifting. I also didn't know that there are other thrift stores out there besides Goodwill and that store did not seem very appealing to me.

When I had my son I got tired of spending so much money on clothes and toys that he outgrew so quickly. I also did not want to spend so much money on new clothes for myself as I gained and then lost pregnancy weight. So when my sister introduced me to these new thrift stores that were popping up all over town, I fell in love. I was getting baby clothes for $3-4! I was getting outfits for myself for $8-10! Name brands, clothes with original tags still attached, baby toys still in original packaging!

And not only are the prices really low as it is and the quality of the items being above what I thought they would be, most thrift stores have sales! Some stores have "half off" days, certain items are on sale on particular days, and so on. It still boggles my mind to this day when people look down on thrift stores, thrifting is so much more than just buying old and used stuff these days.

Until next time,

About me

I am a mom, a wife, a full-time college student, and I work part-time. Yes, I am a very busy person and although it does get overwhelming at times, like midterms or finals week, I love every part of the current journey I am on.
One way I like to relieve the pressures of my very full plate of life is to be a thrifty mom, always looking for deals to help keep finances in control. I love to travel with my family and shopping thrift or buying things at a deal helps my family save money for vacations every year or even just extra spending money to go out and have fun!
This blog is going to be a place where I can share my thrifts and ways I keep up with current trends while saving money. Hopefully, I can help and inspire others who want to save money too.

Until next time,
